Square leading edge means the splitter won't have a "knife-edge" anymore. Instead it would be squared off, which makes me think it will have to work more to cut through the air, therefore helping slow the car down plus give them the downforce they're looking for.

As far as limiting RPMs, I agree with what a lot of people were saying about 2013. They were going way too fast, NASCAR has never been known to do speeds in excess of 200 on a regular basis. Slowing the cars down will let them have more control of the car, and be able to maneuver a lot more. Hopefully resulting in more side-by-side racing and passing.

And more pileups... Seriously, the "crash factor" was non-existent for me this year. It took a lot of fun out of the plate races. Among other places where we usually see some decent wrecks.

This may be related to the track geometry itself. Something like an invisible heightmap overlayed on the low-poly base model for the track surface.

If so, it's a nice way to keep the track surface realistic feeling, while keeping the visual aspects FPS friendly.

Quote from R34GTR :Feels like the end of an era, no more Labonte, Burton, Schrader, Blaney, Martin

I'm not too sad about them leaving, they had become "filler" drivers basically.

Quote from Mustangman759 :it basically is, thats why the "Next" generation is so profound right now. Plus some are really good

That's an interesting thought. I wonder when the official start to the next generation will be. Possibly it's already started, with the Gen 6 car?

Quote from DieKolkrabe :Am I the only one bored with the #54 in NWS? Not the #22, but the #54's so far ahead it's dull, sort of like Vettel in an F3 or GP2 race in a Red Bull.

Precisely. I didn't watch much Nationwide because of that fact.

Quote from DieKolkrabe :But the trucks have had varied winners and great racing, it's the other two series that are meh to me

That's true. But when Busch decided to run trucks, it was almost guaranteed he'd have a shot at winning.

Not technically a purchase since it's a promotion (3-year-old promotion, I might add But it was still valid) Anyway, I have 3 months free.

I'm a big oval nut, been watching iRacing videos, and I eventually started wanting to give it a try really bad. So I couldn't have found this at a better time! Once I started racing, I see why people pay for it. Especially if you're in to ovals, there's nothing that compares to this in the circular realm.

And so the inaugural season comes to an end.

This was great fun throughout the course of the season, this last round excluded, since I didn't even see track time (daylight savings caught me off-guard). I hope to see even more competitors next year, and maybe a few more rounds. That would surely spice things up a bit. But I have to give a big thanks to Toumas and Remco, none of this would have happened without them!

I must give congratulations to Toumas, Yannick and Gary. They all performed great throughout the season. They deserve to be the top 3.

And now begins the process of finding ways to bide my time until the next Formula M season. I hope I won't be too bored for the time being. Perhaps I'll make a new skin, with the series logo and such to start the off-season.

Quote from Cornys :Well, 2 races left to go to decide the 2013 Sprint Cup Champion. Who gets it?

I want to say Matt, but I'm going to go with Jimmie... #3 returns to Sprint Cup next year, and Jimmie Johnson goes after his record tying 7th championship. Old time Earnhardt fans will be happy campers all year!

Seriosuly though, I hope the second part is not the case.

In other news, TV ratings have been up.

I'm really torn, if Johnson gets it Gordon benefits, because the whole car-owner deal... But being a Gordon fan I don't want to see Johnson get another championship. So that would make me root for Kenseth.

So, I suppose I would like to see either win it.

That kid has major issues..... Where did he even get $4M as a figure? Was there some big conspiracy I missed out on?

Quote from PMD9409 :Of course not, it was called Rex for a reason. Ray was the one that found the holes in the rulebook and told Rex what to build essentially. Hendrick pushed for an engineering department that other teams fell short on, and with Ray telling them what parts of the car to design and what to aim for, it led them to unparalleled cars on the track. The T-Rex car is what led NASCAR to make a much tighter rulebook, essentially making things more "spec" than ever before, and that's why you couldn't build anymore of those type cars (Ray tried with the Dodges at Daytona and NASCAR penalized them).

Ray had his own share in a team yes, but was not a crew chief nor did he have the engineering department that matched what he had at Hendrick. To say Evernham wasn't a vital part of Gordon's career is more of an insult to Gordon than it is to Evernham. It would also be like already mentioned Knaus with Jimmie Rustler Johnson.

Those two crew chiefs are probably two of the best we will ever see in the sport, turning their above average talent of drivers into legends. You can't be a true Gordon fan if you can't appreciate what Evernham did for him, simple as that.

We have a winner.

Quote from Bmxtwins :So that explains why Evernham's own race team was so successful

Haha!

He wasn't the crew chief for any of his cars though. :/ Plus, just because you're successful at one position doesn't mean you'll do great at anything else. Now I'm not saying it was all Evernham, or that I think that way. But that one fact does little to prove otherwise.

Quote from PMD9409 :I'm not afraid to set you back to reality.

And keep up with Jeff? Psh, more like keep up with Ray Evernham.

Just like people are having to keep up with Chad Knaus now.

Quote from PMD9409 :The working up for you guys is just too easy.

But really though, Gordon "in the 90s" is still not what is needed these days. You can win all you want all season, but any bad result in the final 10 races and you might as well count yourself out. Gordon was good at winning races and pulling out a huge gap to second in the championship and then just trying to hold on to it. In 1997, he wouldn't have his championship for example under this points system (heck he nearly threw it away in the old points system), nor would he in 1995. In 2001 he won the championship by over 300 points, yet only had 6 top 10s in the final 10 races. In 2004 and 2007, he would have won the championship if it wasn't for the new points system.

I'm not hating on the guy, I've actually liked him a bit since he got older, but I'll be honest when saying he needs more than a golden horseshoe to win this one. The dude's never had to come from behind, and with Jimmie and Matt being the two he has to surpass... wake up!

Definitely, it's two separate eras, the way you won championships then was completely different from how you can do it now. Like I stated, I don't think it's realistic to believe he can do it this year, I was just having some fun. But people have come back from a bad finish to still be in major contention, it's really rare though. Which is why it's not reasonable to count on it happening under most circumstances.

Yep, Ole' Jeff would have been 6-time (or maybe more, who knows) if the chase wouldn't have come in. And he's never had to come from behind to win a championship because no one could keep up with him in his prime. XD

BEWARE: I will take any opportunity I see to make a joke about Gordon's success.
